About Me

Ethics

I have a Certificate in Counselling Skills Level 3 awarded by the CPCAB.  I also have Graduate Membership status of the British Psychological Society and am bound by their code of conduct.

I am regularly externally supervised by a trained and experienced therapist to ensure I maintain good practice throughout.

In the introductory session I explain the clear confidentiality policy that is maintained to provide mutual security and safety.

Qualifications

  BSc. (Hons) Social Studies (Psychology): The City University (1975)

  MSc. Social Work  (1980) Qualified Social Worker (CQSW) 1980.

• Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies (CPCAB accredited course).

Experience

  I have worked for 21 years as a Probation Officer in London and Bristol.

During these two decades I worked with men and women of all ages in a variety of situations and developed a lasting interest in the process of personal change. I tested my skills, knowledge and theories against the reality of the lives of people who were often in crisis and frequently ‘lost’.  It was in this challenging ground that I developed my style of counselling.

  Since leaving the profession I have lectured in, among other subjects, Social Work techniques on the Masters Degrees in both Criminology and Social Work at the University of Hertfordshire.   I have mentored students at Degree and Masters level from a wide age range, on study,work and personal issues.

International work

I am the UK Coordinator of an Anglo-Russian training project teaching social work and counselling techniques to Russian Criminal Justice Staff.  This project began in St Petersburg and has now been successfully adopted by staff in Yekaterinburg and Perm. In 2011 I began working for the Council of Europe training Probation staff in counselling theory and techniques in Georgia.

Other interests

I have an MA in Screenwriting and still occasionally write for children’s television.  When not working I love to be outdoors, gardening or rambling with my dog in the hills and lanes of Kent, Sussex and beyond.
